Instead of working on Pavane these past few days, I've been completing the script for Flag in Flames, the first of the Black Flag stories. I've never gotten to the end of a first draft of anything and had it feel so unfinished. But a story is a thing in and of itself, and a script is a guideline for another kind of work. I'm not used to that, and I feel a little off-balance.
I'm also finding it ironic, that although I keep whining at people for trying to make it a “rule” that “tight prose is good” I nonetheless am doing a lot of prose tightening. And not just because I need to get my wordcount down this time, either. But my Space Pirate comics are not the place to put long flowing sentences, or elaborate descriptions. That doesn't mean there are no places for them.
Saturday I went to the BaseFilk, that was fun, although I didn't take my concertina, because I hadn't practiced in forever. I did get it out today, though, so I could try playing some duets with Alloria, who is learning violin. I think we both had fun. Maybe all those other times I kept trying to make music with my children I was just being too impatient.
