Having recently read on livejournal that the incomplete sentence is the comic writer's best friend. (Hi, Rivkah!) I have been going over the Flag in Flames script checking how many incomplete sentences I use in my dialog as compared to complete ones.
And what I learned is…
I'm just not used to even thinking about whether or not something is a “complete sentence”. I have a great deal of trouble figuring out what is and what isn't because I'm just not used to needing to know the difference. (Yes, I've been paid professional rates for my writing. No, I've never diagrammed a sentence. Yes, you may tell your English teacher I said so.)
Mostly my dialog appears to be made up of actual sentences. I am delighted to state, however, that I did find the following:
Come on in.
My condolences.
What!?!
Now calm down.
Not unless you want a demonstration in furniture disembowelment.
