My girls keep steal… er, borrowing my computer to play Sims2 on, and when they don't want it, my son does so that he can play three player StarCraft with a couple sibs on the other two computers.
So I printed out the script for Flag in Flames, and I've started sketching layouts. This ought to give me plenty to do during my computerless hours. So far I've got eight pages done, plus an idea for the title page, and for a couple chapter title pages. (I'm not sure chapter title pages are a good idea, but all they cost me right now is a sheet of paper and a little bit of time, and it'll be easier to decide in or out if I have both possibilities to look at.)
One of the nice things about the layout sketches is that it doesn't matter if they look terrible, so I can scribble away without worring about technical stuff like proportions, or twiddly details like fingers. I just concentrate on positions, general shapes, and emotional qualities. So far my favorite sketch is the one of Blood throwing up his hands and saying “What, one quarter of the universe isn't big enough?”
I need to get more erasers for my mechanical pencil though.
