Somewhat slow growing. Reaches 60-<height>100</height> ft, diameter of 24-<diameter>36</diameter> inches. Sometimes much larger. In a dense stand it has a straight continuous trunk, free of branches for over half of its height. In the open it develops a broad crown with far reaching limbs. Swamp White is a similar variety, with bark similarly and irregularly divided into deep fisious, and leaves generally broader.
