Single upright stem, with long tough branches, the top ones go up, the middle ones out and the bottom ones droop. Many small bristling branches give it its name. Bark on young trees is smooth shining and light brown, old trunks are greyish brown and covered with small close scales. Wind pasing through leaves ‘hisses’.
