It's presence is said to indicate poor soil. Which may account for its slow growth. Sometimes reaches <height>50</height> or 60 ft, and a diameter of <diameter>16</diameter> inches, but is usually smaller. Hard stiff branches form a dense crown which usually contains many persistent dead twigs. Bark is rough, very dark, and broken into small hard flakes or scales. Leave is wedge shaped. (Not lobed!)
