In case anyone is more interested in what the "factions" look like than in actually playing the game, I am displaying the sprites I created below. (I'm adding new artwork to this page as I make it, so some of the art here may not be available in-game yet.) The still images are the same png files that are used by the game engine. The animated ones, however, are gif files, which Wesnoth does not use -- but which can be posted to the web, when the actual Wesnoth animations cannot. Because gif files do not do partial transparencies, and Wesnoth animations do, there were some transparency problems when I converted them for posting online. Sorry about that!
I know what y'all are thinking -- why are they all wearing pink? They aren't. Don't believe me? Install the game and try it out, and you'll see that none of that pink is really there. Magenta is the designated color for the team color replacement code. Anything that is supposed to turn into your team color, I have to draw in magenta.
* I use existing sprites as a starting or jumping off point a lot, but for some of these sprites a significant amount of the original art remains untouched. For the webspitter and the hippo images, the hippo and the spider are essentially unaltered. For the Grand Crocodile, all I did was add the harness and shift the pose a bit. Some of the Shifter animal forms I did even less work on, and those sprites I left off this page.
