Scent of Spring

by L. Shelby

When the wind, harsh and cold,
Blows through bare branches--
It tugs and my mem'ries,
And then, I see your face.

And the snow, swirling down,
Drifts though my garden.
It, like my heart, seems
A bare and empty place

But underneath the snowdrifts
The moles are digging deep
The mice are busy hoarding
The flowers only sleep

Day by day, tear by tear
Winter is passing
Someday the breezes will bring
The scent of spring
