Black Flag Tutorials

Show me

These tutorials were written as a part of my FAQ, in response to the frequently asked question 'Did you paint that?' and the almost invariable response when I answer that I did not, 'Then how do you make your pictures?' As such, the intent is to give non-Poser users a basic idea of what sort of work is involved when using Poser as tool to create story centric images. However, Poser beginners may find them useful as guidelines or a source of inspiration.

Character Creation --Hiro to Captain Blood

Almost all my story related artwork begins with the creation of digital 3D figures that will represent the characters in the scene. I do not create these figures from scratch, but use commercially available models and customize them to suit my needs. I chose to show the processs of turning Hiro (available at Daz3D) into Captain Blood, because Captain Blood uses pretty much every customization technique in my toolbox.

Part 1: My library only gets me so far...

This part of the tutorial covers the basics of using built in morphs to alter facial features, facial expressions, and body type, and adding texture files and clothing by loading in library presets.

Part 2: It isn't all spinning dials. (Coming Soon)

This part of the tutorial covers more advanced customizations: shaping using magnets, texture alterations using a 2D paint program (PhotoShop Essentials), and clothing alterations using Poser's grouping tool.
