Having gotten over half of the week's writing quota done Monday and Tuesday, I decided yesterday that it would be a good time to take a day off of writing Pavane and get some submitting type stuff done instead. I had decided to add an agent to my list. (It's a really short list, I guess I'm picky or something.) This was one of these (apparently not mythical after all) agents who actually asks for a few pages of the manuscript along with the query letter. But they never got sent because when I double-checked the submissions info online it said “closed to submissions at this time”.
In the end I didn't find anything to do submission-wise yesterday. I have this uneasy feeling that I wasn't trying hard enough. Boyd thinks its been long enough since Harp & Gyre went anywhere that I ought to start retrying places. It's really hard to get enthusiastic about that. It isn't really that I've lost faith in the story–my mom picked up the last time she was here, and promptly lost herself in it, and Azure admitted to actually liking it, and the fact that I have moved onward doesn't mean there is something wrong with where I was. But I've been there, and done that, and it was neither fun nor successful. I'm not sure where I'm going to find the drive to do it over.
I was very happy to get back to actual writing today.
