… but Black Flag seems to want one.
The Black Flag songs are almost the only songs I have written the melody for first, and then fit words to them afterwards, and I've done that reverse usual (for me) order for every single one of the five songs I have so far. Being a soundtrack they don't really need lyrics, I guess, but I like having words to sing — I get a bit bored going “duh dah DUHdaduh DUH daduh Dun Dun Dun…” all the time.
Anyway, I just roughed out lyrics for the last two unlyricized tunes tonight. So now I guess I need to come up with some more melodies. My girls helped me make up a list. I need: A march for the Galactic Marines, a theme for Silver and Bonnie Anne's non-tragic moments (Silver has a theme already, but its sad), and a little something appropriate for Marquis. (Azure thinks it should be designed to dovetail with Captain Blood's song “Revenge”.) The possibility of doing a Silver vs. Blood song was mentioned, but Azure thinks it would be better to just swap between two existing melodic motifs for those characters rather than create a new melody from scratch. (On the other hand Azure also says she's music impaired. We'll just have to see what inspiration I'm struck with I guess.)
Waltz in a Whirl
Spinning, and twirling, as here in your arms I fly
Swirling, and gliding — my spirits soar very high
My heart beats wildly, my face feels so hot, but why?
What am I feeling when I dance with you?
Outside the viewport the stars all go racing by
My gaze is caught by the flame that glows in your eye
But why does it seem that there's none here but you and I?
What am I feeling when I dance with you?
You're strong, and you're smart, with an air of command
But I've seen that before — I just don't understand!
Why do I burn at the touch of your hand?
What am I feeling when I dance with you?
Round and around with my legs all a-tremble, I
Waltz in a whirl, while the universe passes by
I want this never to end — but I don't know why
What am I feeling when I dance with you?
What am I feeling when I dance with you?
Ahead One G (Grandiose Adventure Theme)*
There's a bright sea of stars out there ahead
Where the vast swirling nebula have spread
There are comets with icy tails
There are worlds blazing hidden trails
And we'll see them if only we fly fearless into the starry sea
For the galaxy waits for those willing to venture ahead one G.
There's novas bright and mists of light
Adventures out there to try
Come heed the call, we'll find them all
It's do or die
There's a bright sea of stars out there ahead
Where the vast swirling nebula have spread
And I'll sail to the end of time
Come along on a quest sublime…
…Follow me!
* This is a space pirate romance. You can't do a space pirate romance without a grandiose adventure theme to play during those bits where we see the ships flying against a backdrop of gorgeous spacescape. Azure likes to call it the “Captain's Theme” instead.
